Cancellations Policy

At PGH Driving School, we understand that circumstances sometimes change and lessons may need to be cancelled or rearranged.

As a self-employed driving instructor, lesson appointments represent time reserved exclusively for individual pupils. Late cancellations can result in lost income and prevent other pupils from booking lessons.

This policy aims to provide a fair balance between protecting reserved teaching time and recognising pupils’ individual circumstances.

Standard Cancellations — At Least 48 Hours’ Notice

You may cancel or reschedule a driving lesson without charge by providing at least 48 hours’ notice before the scheduled lesson start time.

Any payment already made for the cancelled lesson will be refunded or, if you prefer, retained as credit towards a future lesson.

To cancel or reschedule, please contact PGH Driving School by text message or email.

The cancellation time will be based on when your message is received.

Late Cancellations — Less Than 48 Hours’ Notice

Where a lesson is cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice, a reasonable cancellation charge may apply.

The charge will be up to the agreed price of the scheduled lesson, depending on the circumstances.

In determining any charge, we will consider:

  • The amount of notice provided.
  • Whether the appointment could reasonably be offered to another pupil.
  • Any costs or expenses saved as a result of the cancellation.
  • The financial loss reasonably resulting from the cancellation.
  • Any exceptional circumstances affecting the pupil.

Where the reserved appointment cannot reasonably be filled and the cancellation results in the loss of the scheduled teaching income, the charge may equal the full agreed lesson fee, where fair and legally justified.

Cancellation charges are intended to reflect reasonable losses, not to impose a penalty.

Failure to Attend — No-Shows

If a pupil fails to attend a scheduled lesson without prior notice, the instructor will normally wait for up to 15 minutes after the agreed start time.

If the pupil does not attend or make contact, the appointment may be treated as a late cancellation.

A reasonable cancellation charge may apply, up to the agreed lesson fee, in accordance with the principles above.

Late Arrival

If a pupil arrives late, the lesson may still finish at its originally scheduled time.

The full agreed lesson fee may remain payable where the instructor was available and the appointment had been reserved for the pupil.

Cancellations by PGH Driving School

Occasionally, lessons may need to be cancelled or rearranged because of illness, vehicle problems, severe weather, safety concerns or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

Where PGH Driving School cancels a lesson, you will not be charged for tuition that has not been provided.

You may arrange a replacement lesson or request a refund of any payment attributable to the cancelled lesson.

Emergencies and Exceptional Circumstances

We understand that unexpected illness, family emergencies and other unforeseen events can prevent pupils from attending lessons.

If this happens, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.

We will consider the circumstances fairly and may waive or reduce a cancellation charge where appropriate.

Prepaid Lesson Packages

Prepaid driving lesson hours do not expire.

You may request a refund of unused prepaid lesson hours at any time.

Refunds are calculated at the hourly rate originally paid for the package, without retrospectively increasing the cost of lessons already completed.

Any valid and reasonable cancellation charges already incurred may be deducted where permitted by law.
