Meet Paul – The Instructor Behind PGH Driving School

I’m Paul, the owner and driving instructor behind PGH Driving School. I’m a fully qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with over six years of experience.

As an independent driving instructor in Fareham, I provide manual driving lessons across Fareham, Gosport and the surrounding areas.
I believe learning to drive should be enjoyable, rewarding and tailored to each pupil. After all, everyone learns differently.

When you learn with PGH Driving School, you’ll always have me as your instructor. Therefore, you’ll benefit from consistent tuition and a familiar face throughout your training.

My Driving Qualifications and Experience

I’ve been a fully qualified driving instructor for six years. During that time, I’ve helped pupils develop their confidence, improve their driving skills and achieve their goals.

I’m also a member of IAM RoadSmart, the UK’s largest independent road safety charity.

I achieved a F1RST in my IAM RoadSmart advanced driving test. This recognises a particularly high standard of advanced driving.
For me, safe driving involves much more than controlling a car. Good observation, anticipation and planning are equally important.

Consequently, I encourage pupils to develop these skills from their earliest lessons.

My aim is simple. I want you to become a safe, confident and independent driver, not just pass your driving test.

Understanding Different Learning Needs

Everyone learns at a different pace. Some pupils feel confident immediately, while others need more time and reassurance.

I hold an NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism. This qualification has helped me develop my understanding of autism and different learning needs.

For example, I recognise the importance of clear communication, patience and adapting lessons to individual preferences.
I also understand that busy roads and unfamiliar situations can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Therefore, I aim to provide a calm, supportive learning environment. You’ll have time to ask questions, practise new skills and build confidence.

Most importantly, your lessons will be tailored to you.

My Approach to Teaching

I believe the best driving lessons involve working together.

Rather than simply telling you what to do, I encourage you to think about your driving. We’ll discuss what’s going well and identify what you could improve.

This approach helps you develop confidence in your own decisions.

We’ll also agree on goals for each lesson. As your skills develop, you’ll take greater responsibility for your driving.

Mistakes are a normal part of learning. Therefore, I treat them as opportunities to understand something new.

Above all, I want you to feel comfortable, supported and involved throughout your training.

More Than Just Passing Your Driving Test

Passing your practical driving test is an exciting achievement. However, it’s only the beginning of your driving journey.

My goal is to prepare you for real-world driving, not simply familiar test routes.

For example, we’ll develop your ability to anticipate hazards, make safe decisions and deal with unfamiliar roads.

I also offer Pass Plus training for newly qualified drivers. This helps build experience and confidence beyond the practical test.

Ultimately, I want you to enjoy driving safely for many years to come.

A Little About Me

Driving isn’t just my profession. It’s also something I enjoy in my spare time.

I’m a keen motorcyclist and ride a Triumph Speed Twin.

Motorcycling gives me a different perspective on the road. In particular, it reinforces the importance of observation, anticipation and awareness of other road users.

I believe this experience also benefits my teaching.

And, of course, there’s nothing quite like getting out on the motorcycle when the British weather cooperates!
